A Trip to Hollo’s Paper Craft
Ohio’s stationary oasis
If you know, you know. Hollo’s Paper Craft in Brunswick, Ohio is one of the most wonderful places around. This Monday I had a reason to make the scenic 45-minute drive from Akron.
I tend to go when I have a need for something specific to finish a project, knowing that if I enter without a list I’m going to be tempted to buy everything in sight!
Exhibit A: The Paper Wall
My sole purpose for coming to Hollo’s was to find a decorative paper for recovering an old lampshade. I knew that I’d be able to find some beautiful, unique, handmade paper on their big display wall. I wasn’t sure whether I’d need one or two papers based on the size of the armature, so I brought it with me. Turns out I did need two sheets.
The lamp in question has a Japanese-inspired turquoise blue ceramic base, which is why I wanted kozo (Japanese mulberry fiber) paper. It was still so difficult to decide which paper to pick!
This was called “gossimer,” which is one of my new favorite words.

I LOVED these so much!! I’m keeping these in my back pocket for a later project.
They have so many colorful options, too, including real marbled papers.
There were a bunch of other luscious textured papers in a flat file off to the side. Gorgeous!
The back section of the store has every color and size of envelope you can think of! I’ve come here before on a mission for a specific color envelope for a card. This time I was just looking. My favorite are the lil baby envelopes for 3 cents each.
The best part about coming to Hollo’s is that I never know what kind of odds and ends I’ll end up seeing.
If cardmaking, scrapbooking and stamps are your thing, look no further! There are stamps hidden in the flat files.
Not pictured: Original Beanie Babies from the 90’s, a wedding invitation design counter, a room full of cardstock, random party supplies, basic school supplies, books on folk art, mat boards… and so much more.
One of the women working gave me some advice on my lampshade. She told me that people in the past who have used their papers for lampshades also bought a crepe paper as a liner. I’m glad she was there to help. Those liner papers were just the right thing for my project.
The two kozo papers I settled on have leaves embedded in the fibers. Each cost $5.00. I bought two small pieces of handmade paper with flowers embedded because they are so beautiful! Now I’m wishing I picked up a couple more— They were only 50 cents each.
